Catherine "Lois" Allison passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at her home in Covington. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Allison loved her family, sports, and watching game shows. In addition to enjoying music and dancing, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mrs. Allison just enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Timothy Allison; parents, John Harrison and Katheryn Aurelia (Arrowsmith) Denton; and sister, Leah Rouse.
George "Sonny" Wilson, 73, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Emory University Hospital. Mr. Wilson was born in Cleveland, Miss., to the late Joseph and Nell Wilson.

Brenda Mae Bruce of Covington passed away Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 67. Grandma Red, as she was affectionately known by so many, was a lively, spirited lady who loved life, adored her family, and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She liked spending time outdoors with the animals and traveling to the mountains. Grandma Red loved the holidays, and always enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Bruce; parents, Floyd and Lela (Barnwell) Pugh; sister, Lou Norris; and her brothers, Monroe Pugh, Kenneth Pugh and Donald Pugh.

Brandon Gay, of Social Circle, passed away Feb. 13, 2014, at the age of 28. Brandon was a 2004 graduate of Eastside High, and was an avid Michigan Wolverines fan. He loved traveling, especially to Panama City Beach and Hawaii, and enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. Brandon cherished his family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Ivey Gay; maternal grandfather, William David Ivey; and his paternal grandfather, William Saunders Gay.

Richard Larry "Gran-paw Tater" Tanner, age 64, of White Plains, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Richard was born in Buckhead, Ga., on Dec. 6, 1949. He was the oldest of nine children born to the late Gordon Arlin Tanner and Ina Ellen Burchard Tanner. He was a 1968 graduate of Newton County High School and married Carolyn Ann Mentel on Oct. 24, 1970.
Jack N. Kitchens, of Covington, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 77. Mr. Kitchens, a retired U.S. Army veteran, proudly served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his 24 years in service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three times), the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and many others. Jessie Martin Wade, of Mansfield, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 83. Mrs. Wade attended Covington First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. She retired, from C.R. Bard after 24 years of dedicated employment. In addition to her being an avid artist and gardener, she loved animals and enjoyed cooking and sewing. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, John Ellis Wade Sr.; daughter, Jane Elizabeth McIntosh; son, John Ellis Wade, Jr.; grandson, Jason Wade; parents, Elbert and Annie (Culberson) Martin; and six of her siblings.

Joe Brown Piper, Jr., 75, of Snellville went home April 8 after a courageous 9-year battle with cancer. Mr. Piper was a loving husband, father and grandfather and avid fisherman who will be dearly missed. Mr. Piper was a former member of Glen Haven United Methodist Church in Decatur for 34 years and served faithfully in many capacities, and he was a current member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Snellville. Mr. Jim Nusser, 67 of Conyers died March 28, 2009 at his home. Mr. Nusser was born July 25, 1941 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Harley Ray and Florence Sheridan Nusser. Mr. Nusser enjoyed drag racing, fishing and wood working, he also loved to argue about politics and won every argument. His daughter, Tassie Sirmans and a brother, Keith W. George T. (Tommy) "Toot" Barnes, born September 25, 1939, died March 28, 2009. He was a brick and block mason by trade for most of his life, but also was a police officer in Porterdale, and served briefly as a security guard.
