Catherine "Lois" Allison passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at her home in Covington. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Allison loved her family, sports, and watching game shows. In addition to enjoying music and dancing, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mrs. Allison just enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Timothy Allison; parents, John Harrison and Katheryn Aurelia (Arrowsmith) Denton; and sister, Leah Rouse.
George "Sonny" Wilson, 73, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Emory University Hospital. Mr. Wilson was born in Cleveland, Miss., to the late Joseph and Nell Wilson.

Brenda Mae Bruce of Covington passed away Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 67. Grandma Red, as she was affectionately known by so many, was a lively, spirited lady who loved life, adored her family, and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She liked spending time outdoors with the animals and traveling to the mountains. Grandma Red loved the holidays, and always enjoyed cooking for her family. Brandon Gay, of Social Circle, passed away Feb. 13, 2014, at the age of 28. Brandon was a 2004 graduate of Eastside High, and was an avid Michigan Wolverines fan. He loved traveling, especially to Panama City Beach and Hawaii, and enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. Brandon cherished his family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Richard Larry "Gran-paw Tater" Tanner, age 64, of White Plains, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Richard was born in Buckhead, Ga., on Dec. 6, 1949. He was the oldest of nine children born to the late Gordon Arlin Tanner and Ina Ellen Burchard Tanner. He was a 1968 graduate of Newton County High School and married Carolyn Ann Mentel on Oct. 24, 1970.
Jack N. Kitchens, of Covington, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 77. Mr. Kitchens, a retired U.S. Army veteran, proudly served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Jessie Martin Wade, of Mansfield, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 83. Mrs. Wade attended Covington First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. She retired, from C.R. Bard after 24 years of dedicated employment. In addition to her being an avid artist and gardener, she loved animals and enjoyed cooking and sewing. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, John Ellis Wade Sr.; daughter, Jane Elizabeth McIntosh; son, John Ellis Wade, Jr.; grandson, Jason Wade; parents, Elbert and Annie (Culberson) Martin; and six of her siblings.

Mrs. Sandra Austin, age 67, of Covington passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at her home. She was born in Carrollton Georgia on October 23, 1946 to the late Willard and Myrtle Huckeba Mashburn. Mrs. Austin was a register nurse and worked at Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta specializing in pediatric care. She showed and loved Tennessee Walking Horses. Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Mashburn.
Mr. John Henry Hitchcock, 71, of Hiawasse, passed away Oct. 30, following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Webb. He was the son of the late Roy and Evelyn (Adams) Hitchcock and was born in 1942, in Covington. He was a member of Towns County Lions Club, Helen Presbyterian Church and treasurer of the ACS. He was very active in the Northeast Georgia Presbytery and also a member of the Porterdale Presbyterian Church in Newton County.
Benjamin F. Johnson Jr. died Oct. 23. Born in 1923 in Gwinnett County, he was a son of the late Benjamin F. Johnson Sr. and Lillie Leach Johnson. Most of his life was spent in Walnut Grove. James "Jim" Dial, of Covington, passed away October 25, 2013, at the age of 50. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington, where he enjoyed passing out bulletins at his special door. Jim loved his family and church family dearly. He was the first special-education student to graduate from Newton County High School, and he worked as a mail clerk for the Newton County Courthouse for 11 years.
