Lisa Marie Denny, age 36, of Social Circle, died Feb. 18, 2014.
Catherine "Lois" Allison passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at her home in Covington. She was 67 years of age. Mrs. Allison loved her family, sports, and watching game shows. In addition to enjoying music and dancing, she loved NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Jr. Mrs. Allison just enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Timothy Allison; parents, John Harrison and Katheryn Aurelia (Arrowsmith) Denton; and sister, Leah Rouse.
George "Sonny" Wilson, 73, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at Emory University Hospital. Mr. Wilson was born in Cleveland, Miss., to the late Joseph and Nell Wilson.
Sharon Long, of Covington, passed away Feb. 18, 2014, at the age of 72. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Mrs. Long loved her family dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Bernice (Larson) Murphy.
Macy Maxine Moore Northcutt, of Covington, passed away Feb. 19, 2014, at the age of 76. Beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, she was surrounded in life and in passing by the loving embrace of family and friends. Brenda Mae Bruce of Covington passed away Feb. 17, 2014, at the age of 67. Grandma Red, as she was affectionately known by so many, was a lively, spirited lady who loved life, adored her family, and especially cherished her time with her grandchildren. She liked spending time outdoors with the animals and traveling to the mountains. Grandma Red loved the holidays, and always enjoyed cooking for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Bruce; parents, Floyd and Lela (Barnwell) Pugh; sister, Lou Norris; and her brothers, Monroe Pugh, Kenneth Pugh and Donald Pugh.
Ike Hay, 69, of Lancaster, Pa., died on Feb. 14, 2014, at home, of ILD. He was born to the late Isaac K. Hay Sr. and Florice Caldwell Hay, April 28, 1944, in Atlanta.
Whalon Stowe of Oxford, Ga., age 37, died Feb. 10, 2014. He is survived by his precious daughter, Peyton Stowe; his father, Doug Stowe of Pensacola, Fla.; his mother, Theresa Campbell of Covington; his sister and brother-in-law, Susie and Danny Lyons of Helen; his sister and brother-in-law, Krissi and Barry McIntosh of Oxford; nephews and nieces Zachary Reynolds, Austin Reynolds, Brittney Norman, and Willow Reynolds.
Brandon Gay, of Social Circle, passed away Feb. 13, 2014, at the age of 28. Brandon was a 2004 graduate of Eastside High, and was an avid Michigan Wolverines fan. He loved traveling, especially to Panama City Beach and Hawaii, and enjoyed snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. Brandon cherished his family dearly, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Ivey Gay; maternal grandfather, William David Ivey; and his paternal grandfather, William Saunders Gay.

Richard Larry "Gran-paw Tater" Tanner, age 64, of White Plains, Ga., passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Richard was born in Buckhead, Ga., on Dec. 6, 1949. He was the oldest of nine children born to the late Gordon Arlin Tanner and Ina Ellen Burchard Tanner. He was a 1968 graduate of Newton County High School and married Carolyn Ann Mentel on Oct. 24, 1970.
Jack N. Kitchens, of Covington, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 77. Mr. Kitchens, a retired U.S. Army veteran, proudly served his country during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. During his 24 years in service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (three times), the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and many others. Jessie Martin Wade, of Mansfield, passed away Feb. 10, 2014, at the age of 83. Mrs. Wade attended Covington First United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. She retired, from C.R. Bard after 24 years of dedicated employment. In addition to her being an avid artist and gardener, she loved animals and enjoyed cooking and sewing. Mrs. Wade was preceded in death by her husband, John Ellis Wade Sr.; daughter, Jane Elizabeth McIntosh; son, John Ellis Wade, Jr.; grandson, Jason Wade; parents, Elbert and Annie (Culberson) Martin; and six of her siblings.
Sandra Ann Smith Hopkins of Covington passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at the age of 71. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was born Feb. 28, 1942, in Columbus. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. J.T. and Mrs.Annie Myrtice Smith, both of Covington.
Dr. Charles Samuel Frady, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and mathematician, passed away on November 13, 2013. Born on September 30, 1937, in Sylva, N.C., to Sarah and Ellis Frady, and one of 11 brothers and sisters,Charlie began life with meager circumstances. At the age of 3, Charlie was stricken with polio, but this tragic diagnosis turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Instead of dropping out of school to work in the town mill, Charlie was able to finish high school, and thus began his journey toward higher education.
Lee Ann Brown, of Covington, passed away November 15, 2013, at the age of 52. She was at home surrounded by her loving family after fighting a long illness.
Nadine White Long, 82, of Porterdale passed away Nov. 11, at Covington Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Long enjoyed sewing and reading. She was a member of Central Community Church in Covington and will be remembered as a devoted wife, aunt and friend to many. Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her parents, Rupert Eugene and Ammerett (Butler) White.
Mary A. Burch of Covington, 92, passed away Nov. 11. Mrs. Burch was a choir member and longtime Sunday School teacher at both Porterdale and Oxford Baptist churches. She was a very Godly woman who loved the Lord and was involved in the homebound ministry, visiting the shut-ins. Mrs. Burch enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading and working crossword puzzles. She loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary Bowie Whittaker of Covington passed away Nov. 8. The daughter of Roy E. and Odessa Davis Bowie, she was born in 1932, in Manchester. She graduated from Porterdale High School in the Class of 1949 and was also a graduate of Crawford W. Long School of Nursing. Ms. Whittaker worked as a surgical nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital and for Dr. Charles Dowman for many years. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joe Whittaker, and her brother, James Richard Bowie.

C.F. Henderson, of Covington, passed away Nov. 7, 2013, at the age of 91. Mr. Henderson was employed by Firestone Tires in Covington for 17 years, and operated Henderson's Phillips 66 Station for many years. After selling his gas station, he worked for Almon Construction Co. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, where his son, the Rev. Harold Ray Henderson, served as pastor. Prior to his membership at Grace, he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Martha K. Hewell of Social Circle passed away November 8, 2013, at the age of 84. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church, where she served as leader of the nursery department for many years.

Minnetta Nelms of Covington passed away November 6, 2013, at the age of 78. Mrs. Nelms taught at Cousins Middle School for more than 30 years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and fishing. Mrs. Nelms loved her family dearly, and cherished her time with each of them.

Mr. Holland Adams, 76, of Rutledge, died Nov. 3. The son of Ralph David and Eula Pearl Studdard Adams, he was born in Social Circle in 1937. He was retired from General Motors. Mr. Adams was a member of Social Circle First Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and cook. Both of these talents were part of his ministry to his community. He always planted enough to share with others. He will long be remembered for the cheese straws and cinnamon rolls that he cooked for others. James Douglas Ivey, 55, of Oxford, passed away Nov. 3. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. Mr. Ivey also enjoyed photography and traveling, especially to the mountains.
Jackie Paul "Jack" Tomlin, 68, of Woodville, Ga., passed away on November 2, 2013, at Athens Regional Medical Center. He suffered from a sudden aortic dissection and was unable to recover.
