Mr. J.C. “Shep” Shepard Jr.

J.C. "Shep" Shepard Jr., 89, of Social Circle, passed to be with his beloved wife of 50 years Elizabeth "Liz" Clay Shepard on August 25, 2014. Born December 20, 1924, he was the son of the late James Curtis Shepard and Jessie V. Shepard Studdard. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Shepard.

Mrs. Louise Thomason

Louise Thomason of Covington, passed away Aug. 24, 2014, at the age of 84. Ms. Thomason was an active member of New Life Praise Center, in Covington, and was a dedicated employee of Lithonia Lighting for 38 years. Following her work at Lithonia Lighting, she dedicated herself to caring for handicapped children. Ms. Thomason was a giving lady, and constantly gave of her time to help those less fortunate. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her brother, Thomas McCord.

Mrs. Rita Ward White, age 90, of Oxford, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, at her home. Mrs. White was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Statesboro, Georgia, and was the eldest daughter of Robert Lee and Florence Hendrix Ward. She grew up in a farming family in Bulloch County, Georgia, and was a graduate of Nevils High School. In 1943, she married her husband of 56 years, Darvin White. Mrs. Bonnie M. Tingler, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at the age of 87. She was born in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the late Russell and Emma M. Morgan. Mrs. Tingler was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington and was an avid BINGO player at the Covington ELKS Club and Conyers American Legion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Tingler.

Mr. Hulon H. Kitchens, 87, of Conyers, died Jan. 21. He was born in Newton County in 1921. Mr. Kitchens proudly saved our country in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. Mr. Kitchens was a member of Newton Baptist Church. He enjoyed bird hunting and loved his family. Mr. Kitchens was preceded in death by parents Andrew and Minnie (Parker) Kitchens and wife Fairy Cowan Kitchens. Katherine Engleert Holahan, 89, of North Pointe Assisted Living died Jan. 20 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Mrs. Angel DeAnn Hammonds Clark, 32, a lifelong resident of Newton County died Jan. 18. She was born in Newton County on June 29, 1976 to Larry and Priscilla (Shannon) Hammonds. Mrs. Clark was a member of High Point Baptist Church and was a loving mother.

William "Bill" Henry Knight passed away at his home in Port Orange, Fla. on December 29, 2008. Mr. Knight was born on December 31, 1933 in Staunton, Va., the son of James and Mary (Bowen) Knight. He retired in 1972 from the United States Army after serving his country for 23 years. He enjoyed traveling and cooking for friends and family.
