Mr. Henry Starr Corley, of Covington, passed away, Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the age of 93. He was born February 19, 1921 in the Starrsville Community of Newton County to the late William H. Corley, Sr. and Leila Wright Corley and was also preceded in death by his brother, William H. Corley, Jr. and sister, Katheryn Corley Mills. Mr. Corley was a surveyor for the Georgia Department of Transportation and a veteran of the United States Army Airforce. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Mr. Kenneth Felton "Tump" Bradford, age 74, of Oxford passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014. He was born November 3, 1939 in Lawrenceville to the late William Howard and Jewell Lindsey Bradford. Mr. Bradford served in the United States Navy and was a member of Central Community Church. He was retired from General Motors and also worked for a number of years following his retirement at General Mills. Mr. Bradford loved to work in his garden and loved his family very much. He was preceded in death by his sister Gloria Fincannon and his grandson Tucker Hankins.
Marilyn McKay Ellisor, age 71, died Friday October 3, 2014, in her home in Watkinsville, after a valiant year-long confrontation with cancer. During her last days and hours she was comforted by family, many friends and the capable staff of Silverleaf Hospice.
G. Orville Capps of Covington, passed away October 1, 2014, at the age of 88. Mr. Capps was a member of County Line Baptist Church. He was a dedicated employee, of the City of Covington, where he worked several years prior to his retirement. Prior to his employment with the City, Mr. Capps worked for Gas, Inc. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, enjoyed watching wrestling and spending time outdoors gardening and fishing. Reuben Yearwood, age 79, of Covington, passed away September 30, 2014. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and going fishing. Mr. Yearwood loved his family dearly, and especially cherished his time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Howard and Lovie (Chambers) Yearwood.
Ralph William "Bill" Hoffman passed away in his Covington home, September 30, 2014, at the age of 90. Mr. Hoffman was a member and former deacon of the First Baptist Church, in Covington, where he also served as past chairman of the Board, Sunday School teacher and superintendent of the Intermediate Department.
Mildred "Mrs. Millie" Maloy, a lifelong resident of Porterdale, passed away September 27, 2014, at the age of 95. She was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church and the Porterdale Woman's Club. Mrs. Millie was known for her sharp mind and quick wit, and therefore gained the nickname, "The General." She loved her family dearly and especially cherished her role as a grandmother. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family. Mrs. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl B. Maloy; parents, Leo and Candace Shaw; and her brother, Marshall "Pete" Shaw.
Annelle Townsend, of Oxford, passed away Sept. 26, 2014 at the age of 82. Married to Grady Townsend for 59 years, the couple honeymooned in Daytona, and visited there every year around their anniversary. Mrs. Townsend enjoyed shopping, but most of all she loved being with her family. She was a member of Heritage Hills Baptist Church in Conyers and will be remembered as a great cook – always preparing more than enough. Mrs. Townsend was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sally Mae Davis; brothers, Buford Davis, R.H. Davis; and sister, Willene Royal.
Vera K. Stalvey, of Covington, passed away September 26, 2014, at the age of 94. Mrs. Stalvey lived in Rome, GA until she moved to Covington in 1975. She was a member of Covington Church of God in Covington, and a former member or East Rome Church of God, where she taught Sunday School. Mrs. Stalvey enjoyed quilting, crocheting and ceramics, but her focus was being a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood A. Funeral services for Opal O'Dell Graves, 91, of Murphy, North Carolina., were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. The Reverends Edward Carter, Fred Lunsford and Jim Ross officiated. Following the service, interment was in the church's cemetery. She died on Monday, September 15, 2014, after an extended illness.

She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Elmer "Mo" Blankenship, Sr. 87, of Oxford, passed away on September 23, 2014 at Newton Medical Center. He was born on May 29, 1927 to the late Mindy Smith Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Covington where he served as a deacon. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was one of the founding members of the Newton County Touchdown Club. Mrs. Jeanne Wiley Driver, age 80, of Covington passed away September 24, 2014. She was born September 12, 1934 in Covington to the late James and Nezzie Prickett Wiley. Mrs. Driver was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend; a good Christian woman who was a member of Sardis Congregational Church and attended Gaither's United Methodist Church and Porterdale Presbyterian Church. She loved nature, flowers and was an Atlanta Braves fan. Mrs. Driver was a private duty nurse who sat with many families during extended illnesses; she was loved by everyone who knew her.
Eugene "Gene" Johnson, 69, of Oxford, died Feb. 21. A cattle farmer and member of Piedmont Cattleman's Association, Mr. Johnson was retired from the city of Covington and was a member of Corinth Christian Church.
Verna Mae Almond, 82, of Brunswick, died Saturday, Jan. 17. Mrs. Almond moved to Brunswick to live with her daughter,Cheryl in 2000. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease those she loved. She was also an avid gardener and attended the Bay Harbour Church of God.
Holly Nanette Purdy of Covington died Feb. 20 at St. Joseph['s Hospital. Born in Atlanta in 1952, she was the daughter of the late Konrad and Martha Parr Purdy. Miss Purdy was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. After graduation she worked for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant and retired after 31 years of service. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Covington, Athens Junior League and the Covington Garden Club.
Mrs. Geraldine D. Patrick, 74, a lifelong resident of Covington, died Feb. 15. The daughter of the late Van and Cassie Duke, she was born in 1934 in Newton County. Mrs. Patrick was a member of Living Waters Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband E. W. Patrick Jr. and sisters Hazel Dooley and Shirley Boes.
Rudy Max Belk, of Covington, died February 12, 2009, at Newton Medical Center, at the age of 74. Son of the late Gordon Belk, he was a Master Tile Setter, whose work can be seen all over the state of Georgia from universities, to schools, and public buildings around Atlanta. The two works he was most proud of was the Olympic Pool at University of Georgia and the Phoenix Rising in an Atlanta building. Mrs. Lucille Maddox Fincher, 82, of Covington, a lifelong resident of the Conyers and Covington area, died Feb. 12. The daughter of the late Jessie and Dollie Mae George Robinson, she was born in 1927 in Rockdale County. Mrs. Fincher was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Conyers. She was a loving mother who raised six children by herself and kept her family close while working as an inspector for Lithonia Lighting. She was preceded in death by first husband Clyde Maddox in 1966 and second husband Jack Fincher in 1994.

Mr. James H. Fountain Sr., 76, of Covington, formerly of Decatur, died Feb. 10. The son of the late George Rains and Rossie Iona Wood Fountain, he was born in 1932 in Lake City, Fla. Mr. Fountain retired from Goldkist after many years of service and was employed with Publix after his retirement. His favorite hobby was spending time with family, especially his grandson. Mr. Fountain proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War.
Former State Rep. and attorney J.C. Maddox, 76, of Calhoun, passed away Jan. 29 at Gordon Hospital following a brief illness. He began his law practice as an associate with Ronald F. Chance in 1961 and became a partner in the Chance & Maddox Firm.
