Jerry Odean McLeroy passed away April 20, 2014, at his home in Covington. He was 84 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. McLeroy loved spending time with his great-grandchildren, and especially enjoyed vacationing with them. He had 35 years of service with Lithonia Lighting. He was preceded in death by his first wife, LaRue McLeroy; granddaughter, Tava Martin; and parents, Dick and Eva McLeroy.

Christopher Dylan Williams, age 18, of Jackson, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on July 19, 1995 in Dalton, Ga. to David L. Williams and Rebecca Lynn (Becky) Pierce Floyd. Dylan was a member of Jackson High School Class of 2013. He was employed with ACS Heating and Air in Covington.
Major Claude Robert Phillips, Jr., born in Social Circle on March 30, 1918, passed away April 2, 2014. He was a devoted husband and father, married 68 years to Jean Cochran Phillips. He and Jean raised a large and happy family. Claude graduated from Oxford College of Emory University and later graduated with JD from Atlanta Law School. As a member of the "greatest generation" he joined the Army and served during WWII. Claude continued his Army career for twenty one years while serving in Germany, Korea and stateside.
Deborah Corley Taylor, of Covington, passed away April 14, 2014, at the age of 56. She enjoyed attending her sons' sporting events and reading, but most of all she loved spending time with her adored grandchildren. She was a devoted employee of Gene Hyde Trucking for many years.
Charlyne Aaron Varner, age 87, died April 13, 2014 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Georgia. She was predeceased by her husband Roy Varner and by her parents Rabun and Ellie May Aaron. She was married to Roy for 66 years. She played the role of devoted helpmate to him as he served 16 years as chairman of Newton County Board of Commissioners. Terry Michael Rowe, 72, of Covington passed away on April 11, 2014. He was born in Covington, Georgia on December 9, 1941 to Ray and Rachel (Crawley) Rowe. He was married to the former Barbara Ketchem for 49 years. Mr. Rowe worked at Big Star for 28 years before finishing his career as a store manager at Food Depot. He was a great pal to his grandkids and loved to take them fishing. He was always there to support them at all sporting and school functions. Mr. Bobby Green, age 80, a lifelong resident of Covington passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. He was born April 19, 1933 in Covington to Rush and Ethel Herring Green who have preceded him in death. Mr. Green served his country in the United States Army and was of the Methodist faith. He worked for a number of years for Hercules as a supervisor over the shipping department and owned and operated Bob's Carpet Service for many years. Billy Reagin of Covington passed away April 10, 2014 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. He was 62 years of age at the time of his death. Billy loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed riding his Harley, going to motorcycle rallies, and was an avid Georgia fan. In addition, he loved playing softball, being outside, trips to Biloxi, and watching NASCAR. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Burton and Jane (Sammons) Jackson; and his beloved dogs, Abby and Ellie.
Mr. Jim Nusser, 67 of Conyers died March 28, 2009 at his home. Mr. Nusser was born July 25, 1941 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Harley Ray and Florence Sheridan Nusser.
