Mr. Mitchell participated in action against the enemy at Peleliu, Palau Group, was among the first to land at Okinawa and Ryukyu Islands and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at Okinawa. Mr. Douglas J. "Jackie" Dial, 68, of Oxford passed away July 14, 2012 at Newton Medical Center. He was born January 24, 1944 in Covington to the late Frances Jackson and Mary Lou Townley Dial.
