James Thomas "Tommy" Gardner, age 78, of Covington, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014. Mr. Gardner was a union carpenter by trade, and he enjoyed hunting and watching NASCAR. He cherished his family, and loved taking care of his sons.
Clara Gaynell Doggett, of Covington, passed away March 8, 2014, at the age of 94. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, shopping, exploring and spending time with them during the holidays. She also loved her two dogs that were her constant companions. Mrs. Doggett was a wonderful Christian woman and a great example to other Christian women. Harold Lee Stapp Sr., 61, of Porterdale, passed away March 8, 2014, at Newton Medical Center. Mr. Stapp was a faithful member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church in Porterdale. He enjoyed playing softball, and will be remembered as a hard worker. Mr. Stapp was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee and Sara Frances (Loyd) Stapp.
Mr. Archie Thomas Mulkey, age 95, of Jefferson, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born March 6, 1918, in Bremen, Georgia, a son of the late Elisha Samuel Mulkey and the late Attie Mae Smith Mulkey. Mr. Mulkey was a retired brickmason and was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. Mr. Mulkey was preceded in death by his by his first wife, Lurlene Johnson Mulkey; two brothers; and three sisters.
Sharon Long, of Covington, passed away Feb. 18, 2014, at the age of 72. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Mrs. Long loved her family dearly, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Leo and Bernice (Larson) Murphy.
Charles Andrew Hall, of Jackson, passed away Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 71. He worked for Evans Tool & Dye in Conyers for more than 35 years. He loved his job and his co-workers. Mr. Hall enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing, hunting, and riding his four-wheeler and tractor. He also loved living and working on his parent's home place, where he enjoyed growing fruit and nut trees. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his grandson, Trevor Bailey; and parents, Andrew and Marie Hall.
Julian L. Gilbert of Covington died on Feb. 27, 2014, at Heritage Healthcare. He was born Sept. 15, 1921. Mr. Gilbert was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. He was a longtime member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church. He faithfully attended the Adult Sunday School Class and church. He was a Ruling Elder as Elder Emeritus. He enjoyed working on his farm and in his vegetable garden. He loved the animals and walking. He retired from Lithonia Lighting after many years. He was a member of Worthville Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years.
Barbara Ann Schemmel, of Newborn, passed away Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 50. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.She loved her job as a bus driver for the Newton County School System. Barbara was a metastatic breast cancer survivor for 10 years and active in Newton County Relay of Life. She was also an active member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
Raymond Carl Hallford, of Oxford, passed away Feb. 27, 2014, at the age of 49. Raymond enjoyed playing basketball when he was younger, and creating spectacular fireworks shows on the Fourth of July. He loved life, adored his family, and cherished his time with them – especially during the holidays. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo (Alexander) Hallford.

Katherine Shawl Brewer, 86, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014. Mrs. Brewer was a dedicated member of 36 years at High Point Baptist Church in Covington. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kay Griswell. Mrs. Brewer is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Obie Brewer of Covington; daughter, Lynda (Mike) Carter of Covington; son, John (Marsha) Brewer of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Jennifer (Corey) Bridwell, Alan (Suzanne) Carter, Amy (Jason) Parker, Jeffrey Brewer, and Christy (Tony) Smith; and a sister, Bettie Miller.
Stephen Joseph Brown, 72, of Logansport, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, in his residence after a battle with cancer.
Marcene Phillips, 69, of Covington, passed away Feb. 24, 2014. Marcene enjoyed crocheting, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and playing golf with her husband, Dwight. She had an adventurous, outgoing and encouraging spirit, and was the glue that held her family together. Marcene cherished the time spent with her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Papa Mac and Mama Mac.
Gary Carl Martin, 52, of Covington, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014. Gary served in the United States Air Force and he was once employed at Walker Harris Chrysler dealership as a service adviser, until he became disabled.

Roger W. Sheridan, 92, of Newborn, passed away Dec. 3. Mr. Sheridan was the current mayor of Newborn, where he held the record of being the oldest mayor in the country and was a retired Army captain, having served in World War II. He holds two records in "Construction and Engineering" in the Guinness Book of World Records and was a manager for international engineering projects in 32 countries.
Anne F. Laxson, 71, of Huntsville, died Dec. 9 at Huntsville Hospital. Mrs. Laxson was preceded in death by sons, Tommy Laxson of Huntsville and Gary Laxson of Hinesville; sisters, Myrtice Singley of Covington, Ga., and Nellie Durden of Walnut Grove, Ga.; and brother William Herring of Covington.
Edna Miller, 62, of Covington, died December 9, 2013, at Dekalb Medical Center. She was born on September 5, 1951, in Macon, to Ray and Emma Lou Miller.
Mike Shropshire, 62, of Covington, passed away Dec, 7. He loved riding his Harley and cooking. He coached Little League football for many years and was a true Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs fan. Mr. Shropshire was always laughing and enjoyed playing his drums. He could play "Wipeout" like no other. He also enjoyed his job and was a dedicated worker. He was preceded in death by his parents William Glynn and Helen Louise (Thomason) Shropshire and nephew Jeffrey Patterson.
Willis Lee "Zip" Clark, 73, of Stover, Mo., passed away Nov. 28 at his home. He was born in 1940, in Waverly, Ill., a son of the late Frank and Alta Nance Clark. He married Marilyn Nagles, and to this union one son, Jeff, was born. They divorced, and he married Elaine Carol Craigmiles in 1965. To this union two sons, Scott and Darian, were born. Elaine preceded her husband in death in 2002.
Patricia Ann Knight of Covington died Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was born on July 1, 1947, in Greenville, S.C., to Perry Burns and Martha Finley Carson. She was a member of Central Community Church.
Charles Allen "Charlie" Lemaster, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at the age of 31. He was an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan and enjoyed playing softball, watching his son play baseball, riding his four-wheeler, but most of all, he loved spending time with this children.

Mrs. Louise Shropshire, 89, of Covington passed away Dec. 4, at the age of 89. Mrs. Shropshire was considered a good friend by many people. She cherished her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lanny Moody of Covington, 54, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died suddenly Dec. 3. Mr. Moody was born in Covington in 1959. He had many passions in life, one of which was sharing the gospel and bringing people to Christ. Through his outgoing personality and his comedic skills, he demonstrated God's love through fun and laughter and was able to touch so many lives through his ministry, Upside Down Comedy.

Walker Sams Kirkpatrick, 82, of Covington, passed away Dec. 2, 2013. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a member of High Point Baptist Church but often attended Gaithers United Methodist Church in Covington. He loved his family dearly and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Kirkpatrick; parents, Robert and Maggie (Loyd) Kirkpatrick; and his sister, Myrtle Harper.
