Mrs. Arlene Bishop, age 73, of Mansfield formerly of Redan passed away at her home Friday, August 29, 2014. She was born August 28, 1941 in Austell Georgia to Arlo and Mary Pike who have preceded her in death. Mrs. Bishop worked for and retired from The Rockdale Citizen Newspaper. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Louise Thomason of Covington, passed away Aug. 24, 2014, at the age of 84. Ms. Thomason was an active member of New Life Praise Center, in Covington, and was a dedicated employee of Lithonia Lighting for 38 years. Following her work at Lithonia Lighting, she dedicated herself to caring for handicapped children. Ms. Thomason was a giving lady, and constantly gave of her time to help those less fortunate. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Preceding her in death was her brother, Thomas McCord.

Mrs. White was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Statesboro, Georgia, and was the eldest daughter of Robert Lee and Florence Hendrix Ward. Mrs. Bonnie M. Tingler, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014, at the age of 87. She was born in Ronceverte, West Virginia to the late Russell and Emma M. Morgan. Mrs. Tingler was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Covington and was an avid BINGO player at the Covington ELKS Club and Conyers American Legion. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Tingler.
Marlene "Polly" Hicks Carswell, age 79, of Lilburn, passed away Wednesday August 20, 2014. Born in Stone Mountain on October 29, 1934 she was a graduate of Stone Mountain High School. She retired from Lilburn Middle School as the lunchroom manager in December 1994. She obtained a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Certificate from the University of Georgia and was a member of Mountain Park Baptist Church in Lilburn since 1962.

He is survived by his wife Miriam Hamby Almand; children Bryan Owenby and Rachel Almand Wimbush; grandchildren Leanne Brown, Bryanna Owenby, Ashley McKibben, Keeley Owenby, Jordan McKibben, Erica Owenby and Alexis Almand and great-grand daughter rAaliyah Lumpkin. Eugene "Gene" Johnson, 69, of Oxford, died Feb. 21. A cattle farmer and member of Piedmont Cattleman's Association, Mr. Johnson was retired from the city of Covington and was a member of Corinth Christian Church.
Verna Mae Almond, 82, of Brunswick, died Saturday, Jan. 17. Mrs. Almond moved to Brunswick to live with her daughter,Cheryl in 2000. She had a great sense of humor and loved to tease those she loved. She was also an avid gardener and attended the Bay Harbour Church of God.
Holly Nanette Purdy of Covington died Feb. 20 at St. Joseph['s Hospital. Born in Atlanta in 1952, she was the daughter of the late Konrad and Martha Parr Purdy. Miss Purdy was a graduate of the University of Georgia where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority. After graduation she worked for Delta Airlines as a flight attendant and retired after 31 years of service. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Covington, Athens Junior League and the Covington Garden Club.
Mrs. Geraldine D. Patrick, 74, a lifelong resident of Covington, died Feb. 15. The daughter of the late Van and Cassie Duke, she was born in 1934 in Newton County. Mrs. Patrick was a member of Living Waters Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with and taking care of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband E. W. Patrick Jr. and sisters Hazel Dooley and Shirley Boes.
Rudy Max Belk, of Covington, died February 12, 2009, at Newton Medical Center, at the age of 74. Son of the late Gordon Belk, he was a Master Tile Setter, whose work can be seen all over the state of Georgia from universities, to schools, and public buildings around Atlanta. The two works he was most proud of was the Olympic Pool at University of Georgia and the Phoenix Rising in an Atlanta building. Mrs. Lucille Maddox Fincher, 82, of Covington, a lifelong resident of the Conyers and Covington area, died Feb. 12. The daughter of the late Jessie and Dollie Mae George Robinson, she was born in 1927 in Rockdale County. Mrs. Fincher was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Conyers. She was a loving mother who raised six children by herself and kept her family close while working as an inspector for Lithonia Lighting. She was preceded in death by first husband Clyde Maddox in 1966 and second husband Jack Fincher in 1994.

Mr. James H. Fountain Sr., 76, of Covington, formerly of Decatur, died Feb. 10. The son of the late George Rains and Rossie Iona Wood Fountain, he was born in 1932 in Lake City, Fla. Mr. Fountain retired from Goldkist after many years of service and was employed with Publix after his retirement. His favorite hobby was spending time with family, especially his grandson. Mr. Fountain proudly served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War.
