Social Circle readies annual cleanup
Social Circle is getting ready for fall with a city-wide clean-up Sept. 24. Around 100 participants are expected to participate in the event which begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. (or when a group's adopted street is clean). Participants are asked to meet at the community room at 138 East Hightower Trail and wear old work clothes and gloves. Coffee and biscuits prepared by the Church at the Grove will be available. ...
One lawsuit settled, other still pending
The city of Social Circle has settled one lawsuit from a former employee, but another is still pending.
Friendship Festival headquarters established
For the next 30 days the headquarters for Social Circle's Friendship Festival Committee will be located at 141 S. Cherokee Road. The committee headquarters location has been unknown for several weeks after a June fire at the city's welcome center shut the center down until repairs can be made.

A Social Circle man reported missing Tuesday was found dead early Thursday morning, the victim of a suicide.
Keener drops out of mayoral race
David Keener has pulled out of the Social Circle mayoral race. He announced his decision Friday in a letter.
Mills to run for Social Circle council
Crenan Mills, owner of FlowerMills Greenhouses, announces his candidacy for Social Circle City Council District 4. Mills decided to enter the race when asked to do so by concerned citizens after longtime incumbent, Anne Peppers, did not seek reelection.

City considers golf cart ordinance at Tuesday City Council meeting
Council members in Social Circle approved the first reading of a golf cart ordinance Tuesday. The city attorney presented the council with a golf cart ordinance model that had initially been drafted for Madison. The council agreed to look at several different options for the ordinance and plans to adopt one tailored to Social Circle at its the next meeting.
