Burgess: Social Circle is painting the town

From my Internet search, I learned that one possible origin of the idiom "Paint the Town Red" was from the practice of Romans soldiers back in their Empire days of painting the walls of their newly-conquered towns with the blood of the vanquished. I don't know whether this is true or not.

Social Circle Friendship Festival

The town of Social Circle celebrated its 180th birthday during its annual Friendship Festival.

The event began at 9 a.m. in Social Circle's downtown business district at the intersection of Hightower Trail and Cherokee Road and ended at 4 p.m.

Burgess: Social Circle Theater - our cultural icon

Yesterday, my husband and I attended a performance at the Social Circle Dinner Theater of "Quilters," a musical with lyrics and music by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. The play is based on the book "The Quilters: Woman and Domestic Art" by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley and had a brief run on Broadway in 1984. The play portrays the important role of quilting in the lives of pioneer women as they confronted and endured the harsh realities of the frontier. Social Circle promotes cycling

As an initiative to promote healthy active lifestyles, the Social Circle Better Hometown Program, Blue Willow Properties, Walton Wellness, Walton Health Care Foundation and Walton Foundation have partnered up to fund Project Road Share.

The Social Circle Better Hometown Program was granted $6,036 for the project at the Social Circle Better Hometown Merchant Coffee on July 10; the money will be used to establish a bicycle trail at Blue Willow Village.
