Train derails in Social Circle

A train derailed in Social Circle Monday evening after a section of rail broke off, according to the Social Circle Department of Public Safety. About seven cars, some filled with plastic pellets and the rest empty, derailed under the East Hightower Trail bridge about 7 p.m., breaking a city water line in the process, according to SCDPS Chief Steve Shelton.

After thirty years of service in the hardware industry, Bill Clegg has decided to call it quits. As the owner and operator of the Ace Hardware in Social Circle, Clegg has decided to hand over the reigns to his son Joel Clegg. "I'm leaving the store in good hands," said Clegg. "Of course I will miss the people. A lot of the customers are like family and friends since I have been here so long."

Social Circle completes annexation, receives another petition

Social Circle moved one step closer to another annexation of more than 300 acres of Newton County land Monday night. The city council received a petition at a called meeting to annex a total of 342.6 acres.
