Reliving memories: Porterdale Reunion

Together again: Former and current Porterdale residents came together Saturday for the eighth annual Porterdale Reunion. Old photos and other memorabilia were on display, and residents and guests alike poured over them sharing stories. Copies of "Diary of a Cotton Mill Girl," written by Lucy Ivey Shaw, were available to buy, as were engraved bricks. There was also a bake sale, hosted by the Porterdale Woman's Club and a silent auction. Proceeds from all the sales will go toward renovating the Porterdale gym.

Aug. 23-28 declared “B.C. Crowell Week”

A single story couldn't contain the life of B.C. Crowell, and the leaders of Porterdale decided a single day just wasn't enough time to honor him. Porterdale paid tribute to one of its most famous sons Friday, when Mayor Bobby Hamby signed a proclamation declaring the upcoming week of Aug. 23-28 as "B.C. Crowell Week."

Porterdale approves 4 mill increase

Porterdale City Council members approved a 4 mill increase over the rollback rate to 17.518 at a special called meeting Tuesday night.

At Porterdale City Council's regular meeting Monday night several community residents braved torrential rain and lightning to voice their concerns about the millage rate hike during a public hearing.
