Porterdale Gym design could be compromised
Because of budget constraints and newer building codes the Porterdale Gym renovation may have to include compromises differing from the original concept of a community gathering place previously approved by the Porterdale City Council.
Concept design of intersection unveiled by LPA
Members of the Porterdale City Council met with Newton County Engineer Kevin Walter, County Commission Chairman Kathy Morgan, District 5 Commissioner Tim Fleming and representatives of engineering consulting company, LPA Group Incorporated, to see a first glimpse of the proposal for a signalized intersection at Ga. Highway 81 and Crowell Road.

Porterdale begins community assistance program
During the holidays, Porterdale City Council member Linda Finger led an effort to equip a family of five with items that would improve their quality of life. She enlisted the help of other city residents and together they were able to provide a washer, dryer, stove and a fully stocked refrigerator to the family with donations.

Family Dollar coming soon to Porterdale
According to Monty Hill, City of Porterdale Zoning Administrator, all proper documentation for the construction of a new Family Dollar was turned into the city Wednesday. The free-standing Family Dollar is being developed by Twin Rivers Capital LLC Real Estate Investment & Development out of Charleston, S.C. and will be located just south of the Shell Station at the Crowell Road and Bypass Road intersection.

Painted for pluckin': Ronald Bragg, owner of "Bragg Repair Service," was the lucky winner of the Gretsch Guitar, donated to Southern Heartland Gallery by the Gretsch Memorial Foundation. Porterdale passes FY2010 budget
The final reading and public hearing for the Porterdale FY2010 budget was held Monday night. The budget was eventually approved (4-1), but only after a heated discussion about a millage rate increase of 3.5 mills to offset decrease revenues caused by the ailing economy.
