Cyclists show support for fallen officers

Ride to provide: The Porterdale Police Department held a motorcycle ride on Saturday to benefit the families of fallen police officers. Donations from the day's ride went to the family of Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Deputy Brian Lamar Mahaffey, who died on Saturday, May 8 when he was shot and killed while trying to serve a warrant. More than 100 motorcycles participated in the ride.

Space is still available to purchase a bed in the Newton County Community Garden in Porterdale which officially opened Saturday morning. With more than 1,500 plants donated by The Home Depot and Bonnie Farms and bed footage made from recycled carpets provided by Nyloboard, families began planting their gardens.
