Christmas in the Village set for Friday evening

Festivities for Porterdale's Christmas in the Village will begin at 6 p.m. Friday.

The highlight of the evening will be the arrival of Santa in a sleigh pulled by real reindeer. Children can have their photo made with Santa near the historic depot.

Porterdale freezes spending

At Monday's regular meeting, the Porterdale City Council voted to enact a six month spending freeze for the town outside of normal operational expenses, such as payroll, as well as routine and emergency maintenance procedures on city equipment, such as flat tires.

Employees will need council approval for any expense other than those specified as exempt from the freeze.

Engineer throws hat in Porterdale Post 5 council race

The Committee to Elect Lowell Chambers has announced that Lowell Chambers will run for the Porterdale City Council Post 5 seat vacated by Kay Piper. Chambers and his family have lived in Porterdale since 2000 and have owned property in the city since 1993.

Chambers has a Master of City Planning from Georgia Tech, a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering from the University of Georgia, a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Georgia, and an Associate of Fine Arts degree from Young Harris College. He is a Georgia Registered Professional Engineer and a certified teacher.
