UPDATE: Man dies after altercation

COVINGTON- A 19-year-old man was shot Monday evening during an altercation at Lakeside Circle, according to Newton County Sheriff's Deputy Felicia Jefferson. The man, identified as Malik Muschett, a resident of Newton County, was later pronounced deceased.

Body found in creek identified as missing Conyers man

The body found Friday afternoon in a Newton County creek has been identified through dental work as 55-year-old Timothy Clements of Conyers. According to Georgia Bureau of Investigations officials, Clements death has been ruled a homicide.

Thornton convicted on all counts

After nearly five hours of deliberation, the jury conviced 26-year-old Courtney Thornton to life in prison for the the shooting death of Dennis Rogers on Jan. 1, 2008. He was also sentenced to an additional 40 years for other crimes commited during that incident.

Arrest made in gas station burglaries

On March 11, the Newton County Sheriff's Office responded to and investigated a burglary at the BP gas station located at 3501 Salem Road. Responding deputies and NCSO investigators were able to obtain store video which showed a black male in a silver vehicle make entry into the store.
