Why does President Trump rush off weekend after weekend to his Mar-a-Lago palazzo in Florida? Because Mar-a-Lago is totally under his control. There he can play the prince, favoring a wedding party with a cameo or entertaining the Japanese prime minister in lavish Palm Beach style.
SPLOST is an acronym for Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. It is a program whereby counties can add one penny per dollar spent by consumers within its borders to help fund projects specifically allowed by state law. It is optional, meaning not mandatory. Each county has to propose a list of projects, and the county residents get to vote whether to agree to this one penny sales tax. It is temporary - collected for five-year periods for the projects specified, then the county proposes a new list and asks its residents to vote yes or no to continue the penny ...
I'm predicting it will snow again and I suspect some of you may think I've gone off the deep end but that's why you read what I write. They don't let just anybody write for the paper, you know. A good writer gets his or her facts from many reliable sources, which will remain confidential, but I guarantee you it wasn't a groundhog. No matter what the charming little General Lee says, most southerners know with six weeks of winter still looming you can't rule out some more wintry weather before spring settles ...
Please allow me a bit of a preamble: Nicholas Sanford Wansley is grandson Number Three chronologically and - pardon a grandfather's pride - a high achiever. After graduation from the University of Georgia, he entered the teaching profession like his dad. Also like his dad, he is a high school science teacher - he teaches International Baccalaureate Physics - and is a cross country coach. This year, his Girls' Cross Country team at South Forsyth High School won the Class 7-A state championship. Nick is scheduled to receive his doctorate at the end of this year. His dad, incidentally, also has a PhD ...

Last Saturday night, Donald Trump attended the Red Cross Ball at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida. On Sunday, he watched the Super Bowl at his West Palm Beach golf course. As he left Florida on Monday, news emerged that he will probably return this weekend for golf with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
It has only happened once before. The Atlanta Falcons are going to the Super Bowl. Today will see the playing of the fifty-first Super Bowl. And of all the first fifty, the team from our area had only been one time. That year was 1999 at the end of the 1998 season. That game was played in Miami. Of course, today's game will be in Houston.
We have a crises in our state. There are 13,000 children who are separated from their families in Georgia. They are in state custody due to neglect, abandonment, or abuse. What we all take for granted in the stability of home is not a part of their world. The number of these children has doubled in the past five years. In Newton County alone, there are 160 children in foster care.
