The Newton County School System is pleased to announce that Dennis Carpenter has been named Deputy Superintendent for Operations for the school district. The Newton County School Board approved by unanimous vote, the recommendation by school superintendent Dr. Steve Whatley, at the March 17 monthly meeting. Carpenter currently serves as the school district's associate superintendent for human resources.

Elks Hoops Shoot winners: East Newton Elementary student Hunter Phillips placed first in the 10-and 11-year-old boys' group, while Ficquett Elementary student Jemelia Evans was the second place winner in the 8-and 9 -year-old girls' group.

The Elks National Hoop Shoot program, a free-throw contest, is open to all boys and girls ages 8 through 13. GaDOE’s school nutrition program and USDA announce 2008-2009 guidelines for free and reduced meals

In light of current economic conditions, the Newton County School System School Nutrition Department would like to remind parents and guardians about the guidelines for free and reduced price school meals. Georgia public school students who are members of households receiving food stamps or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits are eligible for free meals.
