Junior firefighters: To prepare for "Fire Prevention Week" during the week of Oct. 3-9, Piedmont Academy students in pre-school and kindergarten had a special visit by the Jasper County Fire Department on Tuesday. The firefighter explained the importance of having a family fire safety plan, what to do if their home were to catch on fire and who to call, as well as "stop, drop and roll." Stocking the banks

Learning valuable skills: Members of Newton High School DECA collected canned goods outside of Kroger in Conyers Sept. 29, to replenish the local food banks and collected monetary donations in support of Georgia DECA Statewide Fall Community Service Project, Breast Cancer Research. Both organizations collected over 75 cans for the food banks and $165 towards The Breast Cancer Foundation. The group is lead by Quinita Morrow and Ken Ondracek.

DECA gears up

Making plans: On Tuesday, Sept. 21, Ms. Morrow and the DECA Officers of Newton High School held their Official Officer Training. While conducting their training, DECA Officers planned out their yearly activities, including what they have planned for National DECA Week on October 1016. Some of the activities include a Community Service Projects with Porterdale, a "PINK Out" supporting Breast Cancer, Teacher Appreciation Day, DECA Spirit Day, Dress for Success and DECA Career Day.
