Peachtree Academy expands

A brand new gymnasium, 24,000 square feet of classroom and library space and administrative offices were revealed during a ribbon cutting held by the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce at the Covington Peachtree Academy school campus on Tuesday. The classroom space will be for the school's high school students.

Two schools to hold parent information meetings on school flexible learning programs

Two Newton County School System (NCSS) schools will host parent informational meetings this week regarding new Flexible Learning Programs being offered at school. Schools identified by the Georgia Department of Education as Priority, Focus and Alert Schools must implement specific programs and interventions to assist students in improving their academic performance. Both Live Oak Elementary and West Newton Elementary are currently identified as Focus Schools.

Piedmont Academy High School FFA members recently traveled to Indianapolis, Ind. for the National FFA Convention. The members rode a charter bus with Colquitt County FFA and Cairo FFA. Newton FFA Chapter receives national ranking

The National FFA organization recently selected, from a pool of 660 candidates nationwide, the Newton County FFA chapter of Covington, as a two-star winner in the National FFA Chapter Award program. Chapter members have been invited to attend the 2012 National FFA Convention & Expo Oct. 24-27 in Indianapolis where they will be recognized for the honor. The award program is sponsored by John Deere as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
