NCSS budget drops by another $300,000 plus

Already strapped for cash, the Newton County School Board received more bad news this week, learning that the budget would take yet another large cut after the drop in the local tax digest came in at 17 percent, which amounts to more than $300,000. This came on the heels of news from the state, that the position of pre-Kindergarten registration coordinator would no longer be grant funded.

Sunday was a distinctive milestone for the Class of 2010 and Piedmont Academy. Newton County School System honors 57 retirees

The Newton County School System paid tribute to 57 retirees Thursday night at the annual retirement dinner, honoring those who have dedicated a combined total of 1,415 years of service to the children of Newton County.

Principals had a chance to thank their teachers and staff members following a catered dinner at the Turner Lake Complex.

Tentative budget set, Clements parents speak out

The Newton County Board of Education unveiled their tentative budget for the Fiscal Year 2011 Tuesday night, adding back some proposed cuts and raising the millage to 20 mills.
The numbers are still preliminary, as the board will hold three more budget work sessions before approving the FY11 budget at the June 15 meeting. The board also has yet to see the amount they will receive from both local and state funding and is working with anticipated figures.
