Newton County School System honors 57 retirees

The Newton County School System paid tribute to 57 retirees Thursday night at the annual retirement dinner, honoring those who have dedicated a combined total of 1,415 years of service to the children of Newton County.

Principals had a chance to thank their teachers and staff members following a catered dinner at the Turner Lake Complex.

Tentative budget set, Clements parents speak out

The Newton County Board of Education unveiled their tentative budget for the Fiscal Year 2011 Tuesday night, adding back some proposed cuts and raising the millage to 20 mills.
The numbers are still preliminary, as the board will hold three more budget work sessions before approving the FY11 budget at the June 15 meeting. The board also has yet to see the amount they will receive from both local and state funding and is working with anticipated figures.

Agriculture awareness week shows drive, dedication of farmers to 5th grade class

This year the Women's Committee wanted to focus a lot of attention on promoting a very effective program for the Governor's Agriculture Awareness Week. First, the Women's Committee got together to outline their plan of action. Next, the committee needed to find a fifth grade teacher who was willing and excited about getting involved in this program.
