Two students recognized by Newton County BOE

Ralph Brown and Zachary Fallah, juniors at Eastside and Newton high schools, respectively, were recently selected to serve on Georgia State School Superintendent Richard Woods' Student Advisory Council. At its Tuesday meeting, the Newton County School System (NCSS) Board of Education gave special recognition to Brown and Fallah for their appointment.

Board of Education approves contract extension for Superintendent Fuhrey

The Newton County Board of Education extended Superintendent Samantha Fuhrey's contract for an additional year. By unanimous vote, school board members approved her contract extension at the July 19 meeting. As a result of this extension, Fuhrey's contract now runs through the completion of the 2018-2019 school year. This is the third contract extension Fuhrey has received since the board selected her as superintendent in 2013. She was initially offered a three-year contract before assuming the duties as school superintendent on July 1, 2013.

NCSS Receives a 4-Star Financial Efficiency Rating

Newton County School System (NCSS) received a 4-Star Financial Efficiency Rating from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). This is the first year the state released Financial Efficiency Star Ratings for school districts. According to the GaDOE, the ratings are based on data from the 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.

Campers learned about orchestras, studied artist Vincent Van Gogh and created their own versions of his famous paintings, acted and sang a medley of songs.
