State releases district-level EOCT scores

District-level scores were released by the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE) for 2014 End-of-Course Tests (EOCT), showing Newton County School System (NCSS) students outpaced the state pass rate on six out of eight tests and improved pass rates on five of six tests from last year.

Eighth grade CRCT scores improve across state

Georgia eighth graders' scores increased this year, the last year of the Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests, showing an eight percentage point gain in reading. Grade 8 students showed a two percentage point increase in English language arts, a three percentage point increase in mathematics, a three percentage point increase in science, and a two percentage point increase in social studies.

Newton County School System teachers awarded over $17,000 in grants from Snapping Shoals EMC

The Newton County School System is pleased to announce that 12 teachers have earned $17,494.96 in Bright Ideas Grants from Snapping Shoals EMC to provide innovating educational activities and opportunities in the classroom. According to Terry Clark, Vice?President of Energy Services for Snapping Shoals, the funds were "left over from capital credits that went unclaimed for the last five years."
