County jobless rate declines

Newton County's unemployment rate decreased from 10.6 percent in July to 10 percent in August, according to preliminary figures recently released by the Georgia Department of Labor. This number is down from August of 2011 when the unemployment rate was 11.8.

Vampire Diaries shoots in Olde Town Conyers

IN BRIEF: Parts of Olde Town Conyers are being transformed into New Orleans as the CW's show "Vampire Diaries" shoots scenes for its fourth season. The shoot, scheduled to run until Friday in Olde Town, will be mainly at night and will shut down parts of some streets at night. Traffic will also be directed during a few times in the day, according to Main Street Conyers' Monica Coffin. Much of the indoor shooting will take place at the Celtic Tavern. Some of the main stars of the hit television show will reportedly be on set for these scenes.
