As the two grand finales of fireworks went off simultaneously during the 2015 Independence on the Square in Covington, some spectators staring up at the illuminated sky had tears trickling down their face.
Several Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team members of the Newton County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) have completed or will complete specialized training at Barrow County Sheriff's Office to obtain certification, according to a press release.

To qualify, a business must maintain an overall TripAdvisor bubble rating of at least four out of five, have a minimum number of reviews and must have been listed on TripAdvisor for at least 12 months.
Members of the Newton County Theme School (NCTS) Student Council recently presented a check for $600 to the Garden of Gethsemane Homeless Shelter. The Theme School student council raised money through a school store and their annual talent show. They also delivered unopened food items from end-of-year celebrations to the shelter.
By unanimous vote, the Newton County Board of Education (BOE) adopted a resolution opposing Governor Nathan Deal's proposed "Opportunity School District" (OSD) at their June 21 combined work session/monthly meeting.
