A day in the great outdoors: Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center's Wildlife Discovery Area in Mansfield hosted the 14th annual J.A.K.E.S. Day Festival on Saturday. Presentations at the event include puppet shows from Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful, retriever demonstrations and live snake and bird of prey programs. Several exhibitors from wildlife-related organizations also will be on hand to give out information and goodies to those interested in expanding their outdoor horizons.

Woman injured by neighbor's pit bull

A 56-year-old woman was attacked and seriously injured Saturday morning when her nephew's pit bull attacked her.

According to reports from the Covington Police Department, when officers arrived they spoke with the dog's owner who reportedly told them every day his aunt walks through the fence on the right side of his home, heading around the backyard where he resides with his grandparents, but on this day, he heard his brother saying "get off" and ran outside to see what was happening.
