The Historic Courthouse has gotten a retro look for the Fourth of July. The red, white and blue bunting is in a style that adorned the courthouse about 1908 for an endurance car race, according to Cheryl Delk, special projects coordinator for the Newton County Commission. The image was from a period postcard from Gary Doster that Delk came across that is part of the GeorgiaInfo collection (see it here).
Not once during her 11 years with the Newton County Recreation Commission did Carol Rooks ever dread going into work. That doesn't mean every day was easy, but she loved her job and her fellow employees.
The Newton competition cheerleading squad returned from the National Cheerleading Association cheerleading camp at the University of Georgia last week with some new hardware. In addition, the team earned a berth at the NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship at Dallas in January.
