Toy soldiers: The Newton High School Marine Corps JROTC program is once again conducting the Toys for Tots Drive in support of the nationwide Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The JROTC also marched in Saturday's downtown Christmas parade. All the public schools in Newton County, as well as the Bank of North Georgia and several other businesses have volunteered to be collection points for toy donations. Christmas Parade around the corner, rain plan announced

Wonderful entertainment will begin the Lion's Club Christmas Parade festivities at 10 a.m. Saturday at the stage in front of the Historic Newton County Courthouse. Entertainment will continue until the first float arrives on the square around 11:10 a.m. Some Covington IDOL winners and the three Newton County high school marching bands will perform.

Polar Express comes to the county library

The fourth annual Polar Express Train Raffle held by the Kiwanis Club of Covington is currently on display at the Newton County Library on Floyd Street. This year's Polar Express train layout is the last one built by Kiwanis Club member and avid Lionel modeler and collector Richard Rawlins. The train and its layout will be on display in the Covington Branch Library's children's room until Thursday, Dec. 17, the date of the drawing.
