C.H.A.M.P.S.

Graduation day: Social Circle Elementary School graduated its class of C.H.A.M.P.S. on Friday. Members of the Walton County Sheriff's Office presented students with information on drugs, gangs, peer pressure and self-respect, and every fifth grader at the school graduated with honors. An essay contest was held, and one winner was selected from each class. The winners were Cassie Mayfield, Courtney Davis, Elena Sherrill, Will Haynes and Yasmine Bolden. A special award for spirit was awarded to Precious Williams.

One sought in murder

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation along with Newton County Sheriff's Investigators are asking for the public's assistance in locating a suspected murderer by the name of Brandon Hambrick. Hambrick has active arrest warrants for the crime of murder in reference to the death of Alvin Hall. Hall's body was found in his burned vehicle the evening of December 30 on McGiboney Lane in Newton County near the Rockdale County line.

On my honor: Boy Scout troops in Newton and Rockdale counties came together on Saturday for a centennial scouting expo. Different troops had booths set up, displaying various scout activities. Bean bag tosses, fire-making classes, a rope course and more were offered. The event was held at the Parker Road Government Center in Rockdale.
