NCSO hosting free driver’s ed. course

On Thursday, Dec. 8 and Wednesday, Dec. 14, the Newton County Sheriff's Office will be hosting P.R.I.D.E. (Parents Reducing Injuries and Driver Error) at Alcovy High School in Covington from 6-8 p.m. P.R.I.D.E. is a free two hour course that educates parents and their teen drivers about TADRA (Teenage & Adult Driver Responsibility Act), Joshua's Law, and Driver's Education in Georgia. The Georgia Teens Ride with P.R.I.D.E. classes will complement driver education programs by:

Home catches fire Wednesday

The home at 95 Riverbrooke Trail was destroyed Wednesday afternoon when a fire broke out in the back porch area of the home. According to Newton County Fire Chief Mike Satterfield, when firefighters arrived at the home flames were shooting through the roof. The family, two adults and four children, was not injured, but they were displaced and most of their belongings were lost in the blaze.

Champs Again

For the past several years, high school football teams in the area have found quite a bit of success. Eastside, Alcovy and Newton have all made the playoffs recently and it's becoming like clockwork that the city hosts a playoff game at Sharp Stadium each fall. But the three county high schools aren't the only local programs getting it done on the gridiron.

These hikes have been known,for shedding weight while cleaning the environment at the same time.
