Dozens of migrant workers on their way to work in the tobacco fields of North Carolina were detained Thursday morning, after a passerby on Interstate 20 saw what they thought was someone being forced into the undercarriage of one of the workers' charter buses and called 911.
Volunteers with Kohl's in Conyers, led by local resident Donna Sneed, are hoping to beautify the Garden of Gethsemane Homeless Shelter on Turner Lake Circle on April 26.
Sneed hopes to erect a sign at the street entrance to the shelter and landscape and plant flowers around the sign, in addition to putting potted flowers at the entrance to each of the shelter's buildings and planters along the side of some of the buildings. She also hopes to get the shelter's playground equipment repaired.
