Social Circle hosts cleanup
Social Circle is hosting a city-wide cleanup Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. Groups will be assigned a street each to pick up trash until either they are done or 11 a.m. Participants of this cleanup include civic clubs, citizens, the mayor and members of the city council.

Flash flood warning in effect throughout evening
The National Weather Service Doppler radar estimates that between 1.0 and 1.5 inches of rain may fall in Newton County this evening. Because the ground is completely saturated from recent heavy rains the additional rains could result in runoff into area creeks, streams and rivers. Flooding in low-lying and flood prone areas is predicted to be likely as is flooding of some roads - especially poor drainage areas.
Newton decalred federal disaster area
Catoosa, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale counties were added to the list of counties declared federal disaster areas late Friday, making residents eligible for recovery assistance.
Flash flood watch issued by National Weather Service through Saturday night

Sewage plant overflows into Yellow River
Up to 225,000 gallons of partially-treated sewage spilled into the Yellow River on Wednesday morning, when part of the Water and Sewage Authority's wastewater treatment plant had to be closed down due to flooding.
