Newton Fund Now Accepting Nominations for Pat Patrick Big Heart Award

The Newton Fund, a local fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, is looking for the most outstanding volunteer in the community for the fourth annual Pat Patrick Big Heart Award. Local nonprofits as well as individuals and other community-based organizations are asked to nominate individuals who have made a measurable difference in the county through selfless endeavors. Along with recognition, the winner of the award, named in honor of the founding chair of the Newton Fund, will receive a $2,000 award grant to be designated to a charity of choice.

Accident on Smyrna and Highway 212

IN BRIEF: A two-vehicle accident was reported near the intersection of Smyrna Road and Ga. Highway 212, around 1 p.m. on Friday. A 1996 Plymouth Breeze that had turned left off of Smyrna Road onto 212 was reportedly hit by a GMC Savannah van on Ga. Highway 212 heading towards DeKalb County. The female driver of the Plymouth Breeze was extracted from her car and transported by ambulance to Atlanta Medical, according to Rockdale County Fire Department spokesperson Sharon Webb. No other passengers were reportedly in the vehicles.
