EHS graduate wins scholarship

Eastside High School 2012 graduate Maya Ann Collins has been named a 2012 Buick Scholarship recipient. As one of only 100 national Buick Achievement scholarship winners, Collins will receive up to $25,000 a year, renewable for up to four years, to go toward her college tuition. She is planning on pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and bimolecular engineering at Georgia Tech. She also plans on completing the school's Ph.D. program in hopes of becoming a professional engineer.

Mother convicted of ’07 murder of infant

Five years after her 5-week-old Malay Yvette Chandler died, her mother Quanitta Yvette Turner has been convicted of murdering the newborn.

Immediately after the baby's death, Turner told investigators with the Newton County Sheriff's Office that she had accidentally rolled over on the baby while sleeping, but when the child started to cry, she woke up.

Covington police responded to a call about an assault at a home located at Jefferson Village Boulevard on Tuesday night. Covington police are looking for a man they said robbed the South of the Square Storage located on Ga. Highway 36 on Tuesday.
