Immunizations aren’t just for children

Earlier this month, about 30,000 of our county's population returned to school. Whether starting kindergarten, returning for their seventh grade year, or heading off to college, there is a lot that goes into preparing a student to start school. School supplies, new shoes, uniforms, new technology, new backpacks and lunchboxes, dorm room fixtures… the list goes on and on. On that list sometimes is a visit to your pediatrician for an update to your child's immunizations. It should be on all our lists, whether we have small children, grown children or no children.

Cell tower resurrected, approved

A lawsuit over the cell tower denied by the Covington City Council last month isn't something the city can likely win, Mayor Ronnie Johnston said. That's why he changed his vote at Monday's council meeting to break a tie and approve a shorter version of the tower than originally requested.

Hospital struggling with uninsured, underinsured

A month ago, Newton Medical Center officials asked the county to up its millage from 1.2 to 1.5 to help care for ever-increasing numbers of under- and uninsured patients. The county dismissed it, citing a tight budget and a tighter timeframe. The $600,000 that the extra millage would have provided didn't come through.
