Touting their horns: The results are in for the Hornyhead Fish Head Festival, which was held Saturday in Newborn. (L-r) Youth Winner: Eli Galloway - 8 inches long with 8 horns. Adult Winner: Tom Krieger - 6 inches long with 11 horns. Children's Winner: Malcom Whitaker - 7 1/8 inches long with 9 horns. The festival also included a parade, a flea market and other arts and crafts booths. The fish were fried, and according to residents, taste like trout.

Braves pitching coach placed on leave

ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves placed pitching coach Roger McDowell on administrative leave Friday while they investigate allegations that he made homophobic comments and crude gestures toward fans before a game in San Francisco last weekend.

McDowell also is accused of using a baseball bat to threaten a fan who objected to his actions.

Operation Sandbox honored

A good cause: 11 Alive's (WXIX TV) 36th annual Community Service Awards honored 10 recipients for 2011. Among those were Operation Sandbox. The award was presented to Virginia Pearson, cofounder of the organization. The award is presented for outstanding local volunteers who have demonstrated selfless devotion for the betterment of the community. She was escorted by reporter Bill Liss who served in the Air Force, and Ga. Army National Guard Col. Andy Hall. Approximately 500 people were in attendance. Seats for the event were $300 each.
