When a Covington police officer arrived at the scene of an assault call, Elijah Bagby said he was jogging down the street when he was approached by three men.
Bagby told the officer that Quindarious Webb, Quincy Jackson and Ronald Hayes started following him while yelling expletives and saying they did not like gay people on their street. The three men grabbed Bagby.

The Memorial Day weekend was a busy one for the Newton County Fire Department, which ran a total of 68 calls from Friday evening through Monday evening.
Of those calls, seven were for structure fires, three of which were total losses. The first occurred Saturday around 1 a.m. on Cornish Mountain Road. Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority customers should expect to see their monthly bill increase almost $1.50. The increase will be used to bring the water system up to regulatory requirements, replace worn out equipment and combat the increased costs of purchasing water.
For the average household that consumes 5,000 gallons of water per month, the monthly increase will be $1.43. For customers receiving water and wastewater service, the monthly increase will be $3.79 based on the same usage.
