Pedestrian killed trying to cross road

Benita O'Neal Marks, 57, of Covington, was killed Thursday as she attempted to cross Ga. Highway 36 at Lassiter Street around 6:50 p.m.

A 2007 Ford F150 driven by Derrick Nichols of Covington was traveling south when Marks reportedly stepped in front of his vehicle, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright. Nichols did stop his vehicle when he struck Marks.

Development gains from Baxter halo

IN BRIEF: The company behind the Corner Market and Village at Almand Creek Apartments has started the process of studies for the 308-acre plot of land in Conyers that has long been in the works for mixed use commercial and residential development. However, a spokesperson said project was not related to the Baxter International medical manufacturing development. "It's not related per se," said development coordinator David Roeper. Two arrested in drug-related shooting
