BOC OKs Salem Overlay with changes
The Salem Road Overlay has been approved with amendments by the Newton County Board of Commissioners, after several months of planning and development meetings were held on the proposed project, which prolonged a vote from the board.
Residents against gun firing restrictions

Faithful friend
For 15 years the Newton County Animal Shelter was served by a dedicated volunteer. He passed away in September and Wednesday shelter employees and volunteers recognized his loyalty by hanging a plaque honoring him in the shelter lobby.
Crowe found guilty by judge
Christina Renee Crowe was found guilty in the death of 7-year-old Bobby Joe Couch Thursday afternoon and sentenced by Newton County Superior Court Judge Horace J. Johnson Jr. to serve at least 10 years of a 25-year prison term.
County approves spending more on Chamber

Newton County juvenile court receives grant from Promoting Safe and Stable Families program
Newton County Juvenile Court received a grant award in the amount of $36,562.50 from the Department of Human Services Promoting Safe and Stable Families Program. The court will use these funds to launch its first program targeted specifically to girls.
