Almost 100 Bard workers to lose jobs
C.R. Bard Inc. announced that it is cutting 98 jobs in Covington as it consolidates the urological and medical divisions. Public affairs spokeswoman Holly Glass said the Harland Drive facility will close by June 22 as part of Bard's strategic adjustment plan to improve its overall cost structure and improve efficiency. Covington OKs SUP for private K-12 academy
Mayor Kim Carter once again cast the tie-breaking city council vote Monday night in further support of a special use permit for Janice VanNess' Christian Peachtree Academy, which would be built off McGuirts Bridge Road. In what was at times a contentious discussion, VanNess, area residents and city councils members made arguments for and against the building of the school. Henry Co. academy suspends classes, student has swine flu
ATLANTA (AP) - Georgia health officials have shut down a suburban Atlanta private high school after a 14-year-old student tested positive for swine flu. Eagle's Landing Christian Academy in Henry County has suspended all classes for 14 days, though no other students are displaying symptoms of the potentially fatal H1N1 virus, said Dr. Elizabeth Ford, head of the state's Division of Public Health. Mansfield approves budget after four-month delay
 The Mansfield City Council will finally approve its 2009 fiscal year budget on May 11 after a four-month delay. Mansfield operates on a January through December budget cycle, but City Clerk Pat Mullins said with her hip replacement and the mayor's knee replacement, the budget process has been delayed in 2009.
Swine flu reported in LaGrange
Georgia had its first confirmed swine flu case on Thursday when a 30-year-old Kentucky woman, who had been vacationing in Mexico and attended a wedding in LaGrange, fell ill and was hospitalized. The Georgia Center for Disease Control lab was still awaiting test results Thursday afternoon from 24 other cases that could be swine flu.
