NAACP Youth win awards at state conference

Top recruiters: Nine members of Newton County's NAACP Youth attended the state conference in Warner Robins Oct. 10-12. The group won first place for Membership Laydown (most members recruited) and senior Naomi Will won an academic award. Former Newton man inducted into State Bar

On Oct. 30, Bryan Thomas Johnson received official notice he passed the Georgia State Bar exam. On Nov. 2, Johnson was sworn in as a member of the State Bar of Georgia by his father, Presiding Judge Edward H. Johnson, Court of Appeals of Georgia, sitting by designation as a Judge of the Superior Court of Clayton County. Johnson was also sworn in as an Assistant District Attorney for the Clayton Judicial Circuit by District Attorney Tracy Graham Lawson.

Livingston students vow to make their school bully-free

Students at Livingston Elementary School made a conscious decision to rid themselves and their school of "trashy behavior." The students wrote down a bad behavior and threw it in the garbage on their way out of an assembly that brought an end to a week of learning about preventing bullying at their school.

Crowe given two weeks to enter plea

Judge Horace Johnson Jr. granted attorneys for Christina Crowe just two more weeks to inform the court if Crowe wanted to move forward with a stipulated bench trial or a plea of guilty on charges that she drove while intoxicated and in so doing, caused the death of 7-year-old Bobby Joe Couch.
