The Newton County Board of Commissioners approved Senate Bill 423 in a special called meeting Monday night. The board's decision paved the way for Newton County's charter to be signed by Governor Nathan Deal.
Six years after the founding of the Boy Scouts of America in 1910, the metro Atlanta area council opened its doors, and it's been providing youth opportunities in citizenship, leadership and values. One of those youth exemplified the embodiment of the Boy Scout pledge was the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a member of a metro-Atlanta Scouting program at Ebenezer Baptist Church downtown.
Newton County's enabling act, which determines the form of government and how the county is run, passed through the State Senate on March 11 and through the State House as a substitute act on Wednesday.
