Amanda Baird and Crissy Alter have long histories involving beauty pageants. Their children have competed in pageants across the state of Georgia for the last several years. Baird had competed in the Miss Georgia USA Pageant in 2002. Both women share a love for pageants and they have their own dislikes for the events as well. So together, they decided to form Pageants of Hope, to bring forth everything they enjoy about pageants to Covington. They will be hosting the inaugural 2010 Miss Covington Pageant on Aug. 14.
More than 130 cars, trucks and motorcycles attended the Car Show held Saturday, Aug. 7 at the Newton County Recreation Commission's Turner Lake Complex. The event raised more than $3,600 for the Miracle League.
The Veterans Memorial Middle School cheer team, the Cheer Generals, hosted a community yard sale in its school's parking lot Saturday to raise money for new uniforms. The cheer team raised nearly $500 by renting out parking spots to sellers, said Coach Marianna Mansfield.
(August 6, 2010) The teen twins accused of matricide, Jasmiyah and Tasmiyah Whitehead, entered not guilty pleas earlier this week in Rockdale County Superior Court, bringing the cases one step closer to a trial.
