A life-changing experience

The Salvation Army has had a busy start to its summer in Newton County, kicking things off with an event at Camp Grandview in Jasper. The Salvation Army sponsored 18 children from Newton County to attend the camp for children, adults and seniors. Camp Grandview gives life-changing experience to its campers. They enjoy fresh mountain air, exercise and character-based programs, and make new friends that last a lifetime.

A 1959 movie 'Pork Chop Hill' starring Gregory Peck depicted the costly 1953 battle for a rocky hill during the last year of the Korean War. Pork Chop Hill had, in fact, snuffed out numerous lives before 1953. This is the story of one survivor, born and raised in Rockdale County.

Bank bandit suspect killed in Sandy Springs

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Police say a man suspected of robbing a bank in the Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs was later shot and killed by a police officer in Atlanta after a car chase.

Sandy Springs police Lt. Steve Rose says the man was accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank shortly before noon. Sandy Springs police and Georgia State Patrol officers pursued the man's car south on Georgia 400 as the chase entered Atlanta.

State Patrol expands motorcycle safety initiative

The Georgia Department of Public Safety has received a grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to collect data over the next two years to improve motorcycle safety. The $70,000 grant will be used to conduct six, one-day safety checkpoints between March 1 of this year and December 31, 2012.
