NCSO Explorers participate in Winterfest

The Newton County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2010 participated in the 2013 Winterfest located in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Over 3,600 participants gathered from 13 states to experience what Venturing and Exploring is all about. GWA Marching Band wins championship

This past weekend, George Walton Academy's Marching Bulldog Band won first place in the 6 Open Division at the United States Scholastic Band Association Championship held in Chattanooga, Tenn. and finished 1st out of 25 bands from around the Southeast to become the overall Southern States Champion. Mammogram gift: In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Newton Medical Center Women's Diagnostic Center had a drawing for a gift basket each week in October for women who came in and received a mammogram. Renee Bruce, left, received the first gift basket from WDC staff member Ruth Walker. Bruce, a resident of Mansfield, said that she has a routine screening mammogram every year at the WDC.
