NCSO Explorers participate in Winterfest

The Newton County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2010 participated in the 2013 Winterfest located in Gatlinburg, Tenn. Over 3,600 participants gathered from 13 states to experience what Venturing and Exploring is all about. Democratic party members make special holiday deliveries

The Newton County Democratic Party was out and about Saturday delivering bags of food and toiletries to needy families during the holiday season. Members drove around the county and handed out 25 bags of goodies, including oranges, apples, bananas, onions, green beans, canned salmon, mouthwash, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

Newton County Farm Bureau Honored At GFB Convention

The Newton County Farm Bureau was recognized as one of the top county Farm Bureau programs in the state during the 71st Annual GFB Convention held Dec. 6-8, on Jekyll Island. The county chapter was named a finalist for the prestigious McKemie Award - the highest honor that a county Farm Bureau in the state can receive - in recognition of the activities it sponsored during the past year to promote agriculture.

Solid Rock Baptist Church mourns a life cut short

Monday night members of Solid Rock Baptist Church held a fireworks display for 9-year-old Kristin Beaucher. Kristin passed away from complications with a brain tumor early this week. Solid Rock members hoped she could look down on the display.
