Mecca: Missing but not forgotten

On May 7, 1944, 2nd Lt. William Parkinson was reported missing in action after his B-24 Liberator heavy bomber disappeared over the jungles near Lea, New Guinea. On Jan. 18, two U.S. Army officers presented the urn containing Parkinson's remains to his descendants in Conyers. After 69 years, 2nd Lt. Parkinson was finally home.

Sweet spell of victory

One arrested in Silos shooting

Investigators have made one arrest in the Jan. 27 shooting at a birthday party in The Silos. Dandre Knowles, 21, was arrested in Miami, Fl. Wednesday and charged with six counts of aggravated assault, six counts of cruelty to children and one count of criminal damage to property. Covington man killed in Macon wreck

MONTROSE, Ga. (AP) - A Covington man, Michael Jarome Smith, 52, was killed in a wreck on Interstate 16 as more than two dozen cars, pickup trucks and tractor-trailers collided Wednesday morning in a fiery pileup on a foggy Georgia interstate, killing at least four people and sending nine others to a hospital, officials said.
