The Board of Commissioners came to an informal consensus, 3-2, on a final $57.6 million SPLOST list Thursday night, but not before a contentious discussion broke out about which projects should be included and whether or not the three commissioners in favor had met illegally prior to the meeting.
On Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, during the early hours of the morning, an unknown suspect(s) intentionally set fire to two Pure Service Stations in Covington. Due to the proximity of the stations, one located at 4111 Emory St., the other located at 4144 Ga. Highway 278, and similar circumstances of the events surrounding the fires, these events are believed to be related.
The Newton County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved two pedestrian-friendly grants Tuesday night, one for a trail in Porterdale and the other for sidewalks and street crossings to allow students to walk or bike to school.
The roundabout at the intersection of Turner Lake Road and Clark Street is scheduled to open at 10 a.m. Nov. 30, weather permitting, according to a release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
